1888
The Spitz bathing establishment was the first building on this site, established around 1888. Around seven years later, it became the Hotel Spitz. After several changes of ownership, the Steiner family took over the business in 1934. During the Second World War, the hotel was initially used to accommodate wounded soldiers and mothers with children who had been evacuated from the big cities.
1950
The hotel was already well known beyond the borders of Bavaria – even Curd Jürgens held one of his weddings here. The guest list included many famous personalities, and numerous grand parties were celebrated. However, the Steiner family had to slowly look for successors, as their own children pursued different professional paths.
2006
In September 2006, we fell in love with the hotel at first sight. Just three months later, we signed the purchase agreement without even having properly seen it. In 2007, we began the renovation work, and by 2008, we had already opened our "temporary" Ayurvedic center on the first floor, featuring a doctor, a therapist, and a chef from Sri Lanka.
2018
After numerous repairs and renovations, we were able to acquire the St. Leonhard apartment house by the lake in 2018 and turn it into our sister property, "Die Kuh am See." "Walter’s am See" has been around since 2020, and we became increasingly digitalized in that year. To this day, we continue to work on improving our hotel.
Art by the lake: How an idea became an inspiring and lived vision.
Art plays an important role at the Schlierseer Hof. What started as one of many spontaneous impulses in our hotel has now become an integral part of it. In cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, we offer young local talents a platform at "Walter’s am See" to showcase their art.

We are a family-run hotel with tradition. And this tradition has its place – just like constant change does. We combine them with vision and care. With well-preserved old elements and thoughtfully considered new ones. And with a team that feels like one big family. This sense of togetherness and the resulting ambiance are something our guests can feel. This is important to us.
